The SBID Product Design Awards is open to any design professional which includes manufacturers, suppliers, product, industrial and interior designers. PR companies entering on behalf of a client must disclose their authorised position. SBID reserves the right to refuse submissions and entrants to the awards ceremonies.
The deadline for submitting entries for the SBID Product Design Awards 2020 is Friday 29th May at 5pm GMT.
There is no restriction on number of submissions. There is no restriction on the number of applications submitted by any one company. There is no restriction on the number of categories entered per submission.
By submitting an entry, the entrant warrants that it is his/her original work and that they and SBID have permission to publish the material. All projects entered must not be more than 2 years old at the moment of submission e.g. they must be completed on or after 13th March 2018.
All entries need to be completed online and in English via the SBID Awards website.
You will need to submit a clear description about the product and up to 10 images for each submission.
The images should not exceed 10 MB per image. The text should be no more than 300 words and should include:
- a brief description about the product
- the materials and/or techniques used
Image Requirements: Maximum 10 images per submission. Each image must feature a single picture only. Composite images (images that feature two or more separate photographs to make one image) are not permitted.
Image Specification: Jpeg images (min. size 3000px x 2000px – 300 dpi)
Entries are charged at £250 per submission. The £50 admin fee is waived for all SBID members.
1 entry = £250 (submission fee) + £0 (admin fee) = £250
2 entries = £250 + £250 + £0 (admin fee) = £500
SBID Platinum Partners are eligible to enter up to 2 projects free of charge.
For non-members, a fee of £250 applies per submission. A one-off £50 admin charge is applicable to all entrants, this fee is per entrant not per submission. One product may enter multiple categories but will be charged per submission (i.e. Project A can be submitted into the Surfaces & Finishes category and the Fabric & Textiles category, totalling a fee of £500).
1 entry = £250 + £50 = £300
2 entries = £250 + £250 + £50 = £550
3 entries = £250 + £250 + £250 + £50 = £800

A panel of judges, representing a broad range of design skills and connections, will choose the winning entries during the month of April 2020 which will account for 70% of the overall score. Judges’ decisions are final and confidential. There will also be an opportunity for the public to vote on their favourite designs which will account for 30% of the overall score.
Announcing the Winner
The winners will be announced and presented with their trophies at the SBID Product Design Awards ceremony will be held in October 2020 with location and date to be confirmed in due course.
The winners must agree that SBID has the rights to use the submission in any publication, including its website(s), marketing material, affiliated trade magazines and press.
The winner will be asked for and must present quality images of the winning project, defined as 300 dpi.
The winner must provide a publication-quality headshot and company logo.
The winner must be available for interview via telephone, email or person in October 2020.
The winning project may be displayed at SBID events and affiliated trade shows.
Accuracy and Copyrights
Information provided on the official entry form may appear in any publication of SBID’s choice and on the SBID website.
SBID is not responsible for incorrect information provided on entry forms that misrepresents the copyright of original ownership of ideas. SBID assumes that all entries are original and are the works and property of the entrant, with all rights granted there-in. SBID is not liable for violations of any third-party rights, including, but not limited to, claims of copyright, trademark, patent infringement, defamation, trade secrets, or trade dress on the part of the entrant.
SBID assumes that all images provided with entries are free of any third-party rights. The entrant may submit images that are works for hire for an employer only if entrant has secured written permission for the submitted image(s) to appear in any publication of SBID’s choice and the SBID website. SBID reserves the right to move the received entries into a different category. By entering this competition you agree to abide by these rules and you warrant and represent that (i) your entry is your original work, (ii) you have sufficient rights to the material you are submitting, (iii) these rights have been legally obtained and created, and (iv) publication of the material via various media will not infringe on any third party rights, including without limitation contractual rights, intellectual property rights, publicity and privacy rights, and rights against libel, defamation, and slander. By entering this competition and accepting an Award, you grant SBID the right to edit, publish, promote, and otherwise use your entry and either as submitted or in edited form without further permission, notice, or compensation, including but not limited to any publication and the SBID website and on the World Wide Web. SBID reserves the right to forward the entrant’s details onto Awards sponsors and partners. SBID reserves the right to change the T&C’s at any time without further notice.
